The Facts About Georgia Voter Roll List Maintenance
Check Your Status And Protect Your Right to Vote
This year Georgia is conducting extensive list maintenance, meaning potentially almost half a million voters could be removed from the rolls.
By the Numbers
- 477,883 notices will be sent by mail from the Secretary of State’s office to inactive voters
- 180,000 voters appear to have moved based on voter registration and driver’s license data
- 106,000 voters identified by the secretary of state’s office as having not participated in elections or had contact with election officials for roughly 10 years
- 105,000 voters had undeliverable election mail
- 87,000 voters appear to have moved based on National Change of Address information provided by the U.S. Postal Service
What You Can Do
- Voters have 40 days to respond to the mailing to avoid cancellation.
- Check your registration status at sos.ga.gov to know if you’ve been labeled inactive
- Voters designated inactive are still registered but you may be cancelled if you do not either participate in the next federal election, respond to the mailing, or contact your local election office.
- Make a plan to vote in the next elections in November. The best way to avoid cancellation is to vote in every election and to update your registration when you move. On November 4, 2025, all Gwinnett voters will vote for District 2 & District 3 Public Service Commissioners at their regular election precincts. Gwinnett voters who live in incorporated cities will also need to go to their city hall or designated polling site to vote for Mayor and/or Council seats. You can find voting locations at gwinnettelections.com, or mvp.sos.ga.gov
